ISLAMABAD, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased 7.9 percent in August 2022 when compared to the previous month of July, the State Bank of Pakistan said on Tuesday.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.7 billion U.S. dollars during August as compared to the previous month's figure of 2.5 billion dollars, posting an increase of 7.9 percent, the central bank said.

The inflows in August this year came mainly from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Britain and the United States, it added.

The overseas remittances play an important role in Pakistan's economy as they are one of the major sources of the country's foreign exchange.
