NEW DELHI, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The rate of retail inflation in India rose to 7 percent during August, compared with 6.71 percent in July, according to government data released on Monday.

The main reason for the rise in inflation was the rising prices of basic food items, including wheat, rice and pulses.

The rate of retail inflation stood at 5.30 percent in August 2021.

According to local media, retail inflation was above the central bank's comfort level of 6 percent for the eighth month in a row.
