ISLAMABAD, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Eight alleged drugs dealers were killed on Wednesday during a police operation against drugs peddlers in Quetta city of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, police told media.

According to the reports, the police carried out an operation against the alleged drugs dealers near the circular road area of Quetta after an increase in the number of drugs addicts in the city.

During the operation, the suspects opened fire when the police got into the area. The police responded and the fire resulted in the killing of eight drugs dealers while nine others were arrested, the police said.

The police demolished several temporary bases in the area and seized weapons and drugs from the dealers, the police added.

The bodies of the suspects were shifted to a local public hospital for further processing while investigations have been underway, said the police.
