ISLAMABAD, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman on Wednesday called for coordinated and collective global efforts to counter the climate crisis, saying Pakistan is fully committed to playing its role in this regard.

"Climate change has no boundaries and we share the air that we breathe. Pakistan looks forward to working with all countries to invest in a clean and healthy future," Rehman said.

Pakistan is currently going through the ravages of climate catastrophe despite contributing less than 1 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, the minister said.

Climate change-linked floods recently wreaked havoc in Pakistan, affecting more than 33 million people, killing more than 1,300 and injuring over 12,000 since mid of June, according to the National Disaster Management Authority.

She said that the country at present stands at the forefront of the global environmental emergency where air quality and air pollution is one of the major environmental issues, adding that the country has been working toward improving air pollution and reducing emissions.

Special initiatives have been launched with an aim to monitor major polluting sectors including industries, waste management companies and others to fight air pollution on a priority basis, the minister added.
