KABUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Torrential rains and flash floods have killed at least 21 people including women and children and injured scores in Afghanistan's Logar, Wardak and Khost provinces, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Saturday.

The heavy rains and flash floods affected a large number of villages and townships in the three provinces located in the country's eastern and central areas over the past several days, the report said.

The natural disaster also destroyed hundreds of residential houses and affected thousands of acres of farmland and tens of orchards in the three neighboring provinces, according to the agency.

About two weeks ago, more than 40 people including women and children were killed and many others injured when heavy floods swept across a village in Afghanistan's eastern Nuristan province.
