BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's overall consumer price index (CPI) in April increased by 3.9 percent year-on-year, another record high since January 2010 when historical data became available.
According to the latest statistical figures released on Thursday by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the CPI rise was in line with the increase in non-food prices and food-and-soft-beverage prices by 3.8 percent and 4.7 percent, respectively.
The data showed that the increase in the non-food component was driven by prices of miscellaneous goods and services (16.1 percent) and transport (5 percent).
The hike in food and non-alcoholic beverages resulted from the rise in food prices such as oil and fats (21.0 percent) and meat (9.2 percent).
The CPI is a measure of price changes of goods and services paid by the consumer in a specified period. ■
