YANGON, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar confiscated narcotics and drug-related materials worth over 311.58 million U.S. dollars between January and May this year, state media reported on Monday.

This year's five-month drug seizure amounted to more than half of last year's seizure value, according to the report.

The increase showed that the government was accelerating anti-narcotics activities, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the State Administration Council.

Most of the seized narcotic drugs came from Shan State, and the country's authorities have been intensifying anti-narcotics operations, he added.

The Southeast Asian country reported seizures of narcotic drugs and related materials worth 524.48 million U.S. dollars last year.

On June 26, Myanmar burned narcotic drugs worth over 642 million U.S. dollars, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
