MANILA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines reported 4,159 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,776,627.
The Department of Health (DOH) said the number of active cases or patients with highly contagious diseases rose to 33,622.
The DOH said eight additional patients died from COVID-19 complications, pushing the country's death toll to 60,727.
Metro Manila tallied 1,302 new cases, according to the DOH, which classified the country as low risk despite the uptick in new cases.
The Philippines reported the highest single-day tally on Jan. 15, with 39,004 new cases. The country has seen four COVID-19 waves since the pandemic began in January 2020.
The Philippines, with around 110 million population, has tested over 31 million people since the disease emerged. ■
