BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Brunei held an event of meeting and greeting the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other members of the royal family at the historical site of Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital on Sunday.

The event was attended by around 3,000 people. Brunei's sultan turned 76 years old on July 15 this year.

The meet-and-greet event is an annual tradition in the sultan's birthday celebrations, which provides a chance for people of the Southeast Asian country to personally meet the monarch and demonstrate their loyalty.

It was held in the Brunei-Muara District on Sunday. Previously, similar meet-and-greet ceremonies had been held in Temburong and Belait districts. Tutong will be the last of the four districts of Brunei to hold the royal birthday celebration event.
