PHNOM PENH, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Brunei on Thursday reiterated their commitment to strengthen multilateral cooperation for the sake of peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and beyond, the Cambodian foreign ministry said in a press statement.

The reiteration was made during a meeting via video link between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Brunei's second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan bin Pehin Yusof, the ministry said.

Cambodia is the current chair of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), which groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

During the meeting, both ministers also discussed issues related to the upcoming 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings, scheduled from July 30 to Aug. 6 in Phnom Penh.

Erywan "reiterated full support of Brunei Darussalam for Cambodia's ASEAN Chairmanship in steering ASEAN through many monumental challenges of the world today", the Cambodian foreign ministry said.

For his part, Sokhonn thanked Erywan for Brunei's support for Cambodia, and shared his views on various multilateral issues and cooperation of common interest, it added.

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Brunei, the two ministers touched on bilateral relations, saying they highly valued the close friendship between the two countries over the past three decades.
