MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 500 graduates have been commissioned to police forces in the northern Afghan region after receiving a two-month police training, authorities said on Monday.

"Up to 500 police recruits from Balkh, Jawzjan, Faryab, and Sari Pul provinces received graduation certificates from Regional Police Academy during a ceremony held in Balkh on Monday," Fazul Rahman Nasrat from the police training center told the audience during the ceremony.

The cadets were trained in using light weapons and dealing with people to keep law and order, Nasrat said, adding the recruits will be deployed in northern Afghan provinces.

The newly trained personnel held a parade during the graduation ceremony, demonstrating their ability to combat drug trafficking, kidnapping and other crimes.

More than 5,000 police recruits have received training in the Regional Police Academy since the change of regime in August 2021, according to the source.
