SEOUL, July 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's global automotive sale fell last month due to the continued supply shortage of semiconductors used to make cars, industry data showed Friday.

The number of vehicles, sold globally by five local automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong, was 645,852 in June, down 2.2 percent from the same month of last year.

Domestic automotive sale declined 10.1 percent to 121,153 units last month, while sale outside South Korea shrank 0.1 percent to 524,699 units.

The supply shortage of chips used for vehicles led the global automotive sale to keep a downward trend this year.

The country's top carmaker Hyundai Motor sold 59,510 vehicles at home in June, down 13.0 percent from the same month of last year. Hyundai's overseas car sale reduced 2.5 percent to 281,024 units.

The domestic auto sale by Kia Motors, affiliated with Hyundai, retreated 8.5 percent to 45,110 units last month, but its overseas car sale increased 4.3 percent to 213,500 units.

GM Korea's local car sale tumbled 22.8 percent to 4,433 units, but its automotive export grew 5.3 percent to 22,255 units.

Global automotive sale by Renault Samsung dwindled 15.2 percent to 12,011 units, and the number for Ssangyong Motor slipped 5.8 percent to 8,009 units.
