ISLAMABAD, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday that the deepening China-Pakistan economic cooperation is critical to his country's socio-economic progress, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

At a meeting with representatives from a Chinese company, Sharif called the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) a transformational project, which is for the mutual benefit of both countries, according to a statement issued by his office.

Sharif also invited Chinese companies to invest in the huge potential of renewable energy, particularly in solar power in Pakistan.

Sharif said Pakistan is open to investment and his government is taking steps to remove all impediments for further facilitation for the investors.

Launched in 2013, CPEC is a corridor linking Pakistan's Gwadar Port with Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which highlights energy, transport and industrial cooperation.
