KABUL, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A jirga or gathering of Afghan religious scholars which was originally scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed for one day, the local television channel Tolonews reported.

Quoting an unnamed source the media outlet reported in its morning news that the jirga of religious scholars would be opened on Thursday.

About 3,000 religious scholars and elders from the Asian country's 34 provinces reportedly are expected to attend the three-day first-ever jirga or assembly of elders since Afghanistan's takeover by the Taliban in mid-August last year to discuss a series of issues including reopening schools for girls from grade 7th to grade 12th.

The Taliban-run administration has banned women to work outside the home except in the health sector and restricted education for girls above grade 6th until further notice.
