KABUL, June 28 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,000 families have received cash assistance in Afghanistan's southern province of Helmand, the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs said on Tuesday.
The ministry said in a statement that the officials of the provincial refugees and repatriation affairs department, in collaboration with the UN refugees's agency, started distribution of the assistance on Monday.
Identified by survey, each displaced, destitute and needy family received 420 U.S. dollars in cash, according to the statement.
Following the U.S. military defeat and pullout from Afghanistan in August 2021, Washington has imposed sanctions on the Taliban-run administration and frozen more than 9 billion U.S. dollars of Afghanistan's central bank, which further battered the economy of the war-torn country. ■
