COLOMBO, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's gross foreign reserves have grown to 1.92 billion U.S. dollars in May from 1.81 billion dollars in April, according to data released by the central bank on Wednesday.

The data showed that foreign currency reserves grew to 1.8 billion dollars, with reserve position in the International Monetary Fund increasing slightly to 65 million and gold reserves being flat at 28 million dollars.

This is the first time that Sri Lanka's reserves rose in five months.

Sri Lanka has been suffering a shortage of foreign exchange and it suspended the servicing of its external debt in April.
