Hundreds of foreign, domestic tourists visit Afghanistan's Ghazni in past 8 months

KABUL, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of foreign and hundreds of domestic tourists have visited Afghanistan's Ghazni province over the last eight months, said a statement of Information and Culture department of the province released on Monday.

"A total (of) 4,866 domestic and 46 foreign tourists from U.S., the Netherlands, France, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, China, Egypt, Italy and Poland have visited ancient sites, historical monuments, recreational areas and national park in the eastern Ghazni province with old civilizations over the past eight months," the statement added.

Ghazni city was an important commercial and cultural hub of the Islamic world, according to the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The tourism industry in Afghanistan is getting revival after the return of relatively peaceful environment and security, following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in mid-August last year.

Thousands of tourists including foreigners have reportedly visited the western Herat and central Bamiyan provinces over the past eight months.
