Australia's Melbourne to host FINA 2022 short-course swimming worlds

SYDNEY, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Australia's Melbourne will host the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre from December 13-18, 2022.

The 16th short-course worlds will be the first time that the "sports capital" has hosted this prestigious 25-meter event.

According to the announcement from FINA on Friday, more than 1,000 athletes from over 180 countries and regions will compete in the six-day swimming event.

Melbourne has played host to many major aquatics events, including the FINA World Championships in 2007 and multiple FINA Swimming World Cups. Other FINA events in Australia have been the 1991 and 1998 World Championships, which were both held in Perth in Western Australia.
