Fiji reports 39 new COVID-19 cases

SUVA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Fiji reported 39 new COVID-19 cases over the last two days, bringing the tally in the island nation to more than 64,000 since March 2020.

Fiji's Health Ministry confirmed that of the 39 new cases recorded from Sunday to Monday, 16 cases were in the central part of the nation, 22 in the western part and one in the northern part, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation reported on Tuesday.

As of Monday, a total of 126,926 people in Fiji have so far received booster doses, or 29.5 percent of the eligible population.

Currently, 94.8 percent of those aged 18 and above have received the second doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Fiji has reported 862 COVID-19-related deaths since March 2020.
