NEW DELHI, May 10 (Xinhua) -- An attack on the headquarters of police intelligence has triggered panic in the northern Indian state of Punjab, officials said Tuesday.

The rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) was said to be fired from the street on Monday evening, shattering the glasses of the building in Mohali, about 8 km southwest of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab.

None was killed or wounded in the attack.

"A minor explosion was reported at the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in sector 77, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar at around 7:45 p.m. (local time) on Monday. No damage has been reported. Senior officers are on the spot and an investigation is being done. Forensic teams have been called," police said in a statement to local media.

The police have cordoned off the area and sounded an alert. Security has been heightened across the district.

Meanwhile, police teams are monitoring the CCTV footage of the area in order to make a breakthrough in searching the perpetrators.

Reports said two suspects had arrived in a car and launched the RPG from about 80 meters away from the intelligence office building. The RPG landed on the third floor of the building. The attackers were said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack.

"We are investigating every possible angle and nothing can be ignored," a senior police official told the media.
