NEW DELHI, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Five members of a family, including a two-year-old child, were found murdered Saturday at their home in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The incident came to light following a fire in the house, which was reported to have been set ablaze following the killings, the police said.
The tragedy took place in Khewrajpur village of Prayagraj district, about 217 km southeast of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
"Today we received information that a fire had broken out at a house. When police and fire-fighting teams reached the spot, they found bodies inside the house," a police official said.
The police said the deceased included 55-year-old Ram Kumar Yadav and his wife Kusum Devi, their 25-year-od daughter Manisha, a daughter-in-law and a two-year-old granddaughter. Another five-year-old granddaughter survived the attack and has been admitted to a hospital.
