NEW DELHI, April 11 (Xinhua) -- At least 48 persons have been stuck inside ropeway trolleys for over 20 hours and one was dead in India's eastern state of Jharkhand, confirmed a local government official over phone on Monday.

The mishap occurred in the state's Deoghar district on Sunday afternoon, after the chain of the ropeway came out suddenly. The ropeway was passing through hills when the mishap occurred.

More than 10 people have been rescued so far. During the rescue operations, a woman died and one child who had been sent to a local hospital was in a serious condition.

Rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Air Force (IAF), local disaster management units and district administration officials have been making efforts to bring down those stuck inside the trolleys, said a district administration official over phone.

Those stuck in the mishap were placed in 12 separate trolleys.

"Two Mi-17 helicopters are involved in rescue operations. The operations are still going on," confirmed the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Efforts are being made to supply food and water to those stuck, added an IAF official.
