HANOI, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam posted the lowest daily COVID-19 tally in nearly two months on Sunday with 28,307 cases, down 5,833 cases from Saturday, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new infections, logged in 62 localities nationwide, were all domestically transmitted.

Localities reporting the highest number of COVID-19 infections include the Vietnamese capital Hanoi with 2,181 new cases, the northern Bac Giang province with 1,533 and the central Nghe An province with 1,525 cases.

The infections brought the total tally in Vietnam to 10,198,236, with 42,813 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 8,532,523 COVID-19 patients, or 84 percent of the infections, have so far recovered.

Over 208.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including 191.3 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication and infectivity. As of Sunday, it has registered nearly 10.2 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in April 2021, said the health ministry. ■
