KABUL, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Taliban-run caretaker cabinet has tasked the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum to bid on the exploration and extraction of iron and lead mines, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Sunday.
Chaired by Acting Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the cabinet economic commission instructed the ministry of mines and petroleum to submit contracts on the extraction of salt mines to domestic companies, the news agency added.
Iron mine is located in Afghanistan's western Herat province while the lead mine sits in the neighboring Ghor province.
The economic commission also instructed concerned bodies to address the problems of sick factories and manufacturing companies duly.
Baradar, who inaugurated the work for a major water canal in the northern Balkh and extraction of crude oil in neighboring Sari Pul province recently, has said that the administration would do its best to attract investment in all necessary fields including mining to create jobs for people in the war-torn country. ■
