ULAN BATOR, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh on Tuesday issued a decree on reducing alcohol misuse.
The decree was issued as "an average of around 55 liters of alcoholic beverages are consumed per person aged above 21 in Mongolia every year ... higher than the safe consumption standards set by the World Health Organization," Togtmol Munkhsaikhan, Mongolian presidential advisor on health, sports and social policy, said in a press conference.
The decree will prohibit the use of high-strength ethyl alcohol at receptions, official celebrations and ceremonies arranged by government organizations. It will also take such measures as reducing alcohol strength, establishing a cancer hospital and an addiction treatment center, and promoting employment to cut alcohol consumption.
Mongolia has recently launched a nationwide movement against alcoholism. ■
