WARSAW, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Iga Swiatek continues the momentum as the 20-year-old Polish tennis player took a massive victory of 6-1, 6-0 over the American Madison Keys in the quarterfinal of the BNP Paribas Open - Indian Wells on Wednesday night.
Swiatek controlled the game from the very beginning to the last and needed just 56 minutes to secure her place in the semifinal of the tournament. Keys couldn't deal with Swiatek's forehands and backhands on the line.
"Keys played a very good tournament and this season she is doing great. I didn't know if I would be able to push her on the defensive because her plays are very fast. I tried to keep on my feet and control the situation. I am glad that I played in slightly better conditions when it was colder because I felt the effects of the last match strongly," the winner said after the match.
The next rival of the Pole who was born in Raszyn will be Simona Halep, who easily beat Petra Martic 6-1, 6-1. The semifinal is scheduled for Friday night. On the court, they have met each other three times so far while the Romanian, who defeated Swiatek at the Australian Open last year, won two of these matches.
"Halep is a great player, she plays very consistently. I do not know how many unforced mistakes she made in her semifinal game, but I suppose that less than 10. We have a great match ahead of us, and for me it will be a great test that will show what progress I have made", Swiatek concluded. ■
