Pakistan's anti-narcotics force recovers 698.8 kg drugs, arrests 5 suspects

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted operations in different areas of the country, recovering 698.8 kg of drugs and arresting five suspects during the last 24 hours, an official said Monday evening.

A spokesperson of the ANF said in a statement that the recovered drugs include 591.6 kg of hashish, 97 kg of opium, six kg of heroin and 4.2 kg of ice drug.

The ANF team, supported by an intelligence agency, conducted a raid near Ghazi Ghat area of the Muzaffargarh district and recovered 571.2 kg of hashish, 55 kg of opium and 4.2 kg of ice drug from a truck.

The force also arrested two suspected smugglers during the raid, who were smuggling the drugs from southwestern Balochistan province to eastern Punjab province.

In another operation in northwestern city Peshawar, the ANF seized six kg of heroin, 1.2 kg of hashish and 1.2 kg of opium from a car and arrested two suspects, including a female.

The ANF conducted the third operation in eastern city of Lahore, arresting a ringleader of a gang and recovered 19.2 kg of hashish and 40.8 kg of opium from his car and his residence. ■
