HANOI, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- About 17 million students across Vietnam are expected to return to school in the next few weeks starting Monday after prolonged online learning due to COVID-19, according to the country's Ministry of Education and Training.

All 63 Vietnamese cities and provinces will resume in-person classes for secondary and high school students by Feb. 14, local Chinhphu (Government) online newspaper cited the ministry as reporting on Monday.

Meanwhile, 60 localities will reopen kindergartens and primary schools in February. All universities and colleges too would have students returning to classes this month, according to the report.

In the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, the country's current COVID-19 hotspot, face-to-face learning will be resumed from Thursday for students from the first to sixth grades in 18 suburban districts and towns, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Students of grades one to six in 12 urban districts and those in high-risk areas will continue to study online, while preschoolers will stay home, said the news agency.

For southern Ho Chi Minh City, about 1.7 million students of all grades are expected to return to school by Feb. 14, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training. Kindergartens and primary schools in the city will reopen on Feb. 14, with educational activities to be organized in accordance with the localities' pandemic situation.
