HANOI, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 8,601 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including 8,575 locally transmitted and 26 imported, according to the Ministry of Health.
The Vietnamese capital Hanoi remained the locality with the highest number of infections on Thursday with 2,738 cases, followed by central Thanh Hoa province with 463 cases and central Quang Nam province with 356 cases.
The infections brought the country's total tally to 2,304,095 with 38,063 deaths, and 2,093,947 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered.
Some 181.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 28.4 million third shots, have been administered, according to the ministry.
Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication and infectivity.
As of Thursday, the country has registered nearly 2.3 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April last year. It has also confirmed 192 cases with the new Omicron variant. ■
