DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's Serengeti National Park will host the 2026 World Travel Awards grand final gala ceremony on Dec. 12, marking another milestone in the country's efforts to strengthen its position as a leading global tourism destination, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
The announcement was made by Graham Cooke, founder and president of the World Travel Awards, during a special event at the World Travel Market international tourism exhibition in London, according to the statement.
It said Cooke said Tanzania was selected for its unique tourism attractions, describing the Serengeti as one of Africa's and the world's most renowned destinations for its rich wildlife and exceptional natural attractions.
He also cited Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, the country's natural beauty and the hospitality of Tanzanians as key factors behind the selection, said the statement.
Tanzania's Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Ashatu Kijaji thanked Cooke and the World Travel Awards for selecting the country to host the international event.
Kijaji said Tanzania was ready to provide visitors from across the world with a memorable tourism experience, adding that Serengeti was prepared to welcome more than 500 guests expected to attend the ceremony from different countries.
She said hosting the event would provide an important opportunity to promote Tanzania internationally, increase its global visibility and strengthen its competitiveness in the international tourism market. ■
