TRIPOLI, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Libya's House of Representatives on Monday voted to formally accept the resignation of Central Bank Governor Naji Issa and appoint Fawzi Abu Khzam as the bank's new governor.

A total of 78 lawmakers out of 90 attending the parliamentary session voted in favor of the decision, according to the announcement.

The vote marks the conclusion of procedures concerning Issa's resignation, which he submitted to the country's legislative authorities in August, citing sensitive reasons without providing further details.

On Oct. 22, the presidency of the House of Representatives provisionally accepted Issa's resignation and issued a decision, assigning Abu Khzam, a member of the central bank's board of directors, to temporarily perform the governor's duties pending a final decision by parliament.

The move came as the Libyan economy faces growing pressures, including fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Libyan dinar against foreign currencies, rising prices, and continued disputes over the unification of public spending and monetary policies. ■
