ABIDJAN, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Cote d'Ivoire will launch a pilot project with an estimated cost of 2 billion CFA francs (3.5 million U.S. dollars) to promote the socio-economic reintegration of returning migrants, a government official said on Thursday.
The 18-24 month project is expected to create 150 direct jobs and benefit 1,200 people indirectly, said Adama Dosso, minister delegate in charge of African Integration and Ivorians Abroad, at the opening of the second National Conference on Migrants Reintegration.
The KITLANY project, led by the international platform Stay in Africa, plans to support 300 people, including 200 returning migrants and 100 young people from affected communities, through psychosocial support, vocational training and employment opportunities.
The government hopes the two donor roundtables scheduled during the two-day conference will secure more than 50 percent of the required funding, Dosso said.
Official data showed that 4,125 returning migrants had received government support by the end of September, compared with 2,313 for the whole of 2025.
"While returning home sometimes marks the end of a difficult journey, it should also open up new prospects for personal recovery, economic integration and contribution to sustainable development," Dosso added. ■
