TRIPOLI, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity said Sunday that it had summoned the U.S. charge d'affaires in Libya to deliver a formal protest over "offensive remarks" directed at Libya and its people.
The ministry said it had handed the diplomat an official note of protest, demanding official clarification and correction of the remarks.
It stressed its rejection of any statements that undermine the dignity of the Libyan people or the use of Libya as a subject of electoral disputes and domestic political calculations.
U.S. President Donald Trump made remarks on Saturday at a campaign rally in Georgia, where he attacked immigration policies and named Libya, Yemen, Haiti and Somalia among what he called "terror-infested countries."
The comments sparked widespread condemnation across Libyan political and public circles. ■
