CAIRO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) said it had recently dispatched more than 280 trucks carrying flour and food baskets to help ease a severe bread shortage in the Gaza Strip as of Sunday.
More than 90 trucks went out Sunday, following over 190 in the past week. The supplies will be handed over to the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza for distribution to bakeries whose operations have been disrupted, the ERC said.
The ERC added it sent an aid convoy toward Gaza early Sunday, carrying more than 3,676 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, including flour, food baskets, relief items, medicines and fuel for hospitals, bakeries and other vital facilities.
It was the 302nd convoy from Egypt to Gaza since the ERC launched its pro-Gaza humanitarian aid initiative in late July 2025.
The ERC said it has maintained a broader presence since the crisis began, helping deliver more than 1 million tonnes of humanitarian aid with over 75,000 volunteers.
Gaza's health authorities said Sunday in their latest daily update that four new deaths and 14 injuries were recorded in the past 24 hours, raising the toll since the Israel-Hamas ceasefire took effect in October 2025 to 1,551 deaths and 5,573 injured.
The overall Palestinian death toll since the conflict began on Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 74,544, with 175,692 injured, according to the health authorities. ■
