KAMPALA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Ten Ugandan resident district commissioners (RDCs), who represent the government at the district level, were flagged off on Saturday for a three-week training program in China to learn from the country's experience in lifting millions of people out of poverty.

Haji Kakande Yunus, secretary in the Office of the President, commended the cordial relations between Uganda and China at the flag-off ceremony and urged the officials to make the most of the training opportunity by acquiring skills that could help transform rural communities in Uganda.

Billy Janet Mulindwa, RDC for Masaka District, welcomed the opportunity, saying the skills she would acquire could help improve the livelihoods of the people she represents.

"I am excited to be part of the team going for training and I expect the skills like financial investments and modern farming I acquire will be of use to my people in Masaka district where I am currently stationed," Mulindwa said.

Abubaker Birungi, deputy RDC for Mubende District, said he hoped to gain further knowledge, particularly in animal husbandry, and share the skills with local communities upon his return.

Birungi noted that because Mubende District lies within Uganda's cattle corridor, the training in China will offer valuable insights into modern cattle farming while helping build connections with Chinese partners. ■
