FREETOWN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The 27th Chinese medical team to Sierra Leone, in collaboration with local medical staff, on Thursday provided free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations, health education and practical training at the Calaba Town Health Center in the capital, Freetown, to mark the World Traditional Medicine Day.
The outreach, organized by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Center of the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital under China's "100 Medical Teams in 1,000 Villages" program, targeted patients suffering from neck, shoulder, lower back and limb pain.
The medical team applied techniques such as Fu's Subcutaneous Needling, balance-regulating acupuncture, Dong's extraordinary points, "tuina" massage and scraping therapy. Nearly 100 residents received treatment during the morning, with many reporting relief from chronic pain.
The team also conducted health education and hands-on training for local grassroots physicians in posture assessment, joint function evaluation, needling techniques and acupoint selection, using real clinical cases.
Mohamed K. Fabba, head of the Calaba Town Health Center, praised the initiative for addressing residents' healthcare needs and expressed hope for more outreach activities.
The medical team said it would expand grassroots services and technical training to promote traditional medicine cooperation between China and Sierra Leone under the China-Africa Health Partnership Initiative. ■
