KHARTOUM, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Four people, including three children, were killed in drone attacks targeting the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Monday, according to a rights group and a medical source.
"A drone operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck the Imtidad Nasir neighborhood on Monday morning, killing three children aged between two and six, according to preliminary information," the Sudanese Emergency Lawyers, a local rights group, said in a statement.
The group condemned the attack, calling for an end to attacks on populated areas, independent and transparent investigations, and accountability for those responsible.
Meanwhile, a medical source at a hospital in eastern Khartoum said that a man aged around 50 was killed in a strike targeting a civilian building in the same neighborhood.
Earlier in the day, a military source told Xinhua that the ground-based air defenses of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) shot down two suicide drones targeting the area around Khartoum International Airport in the eastern part of the capital.
Falling debris from the interception killed a person inside a civilian building in eastern Khartoum, the source said, adding that neither drone had hit its intended target.
The Imtidad Nasir area lies east of Khartoum, near Khartoum International Airport and the headquarters of the SAF's General Command.
Khartoum International Airport resumed operations in February 2026 after being out of service since fighting broke out between the SAF and the RSF in April 2023. ■
