KAMPALA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Uganda remains Ebola-free despite reports that a confirmed case in neighboring Kenya had transited through the country, Ministry of Health said late Tuesday.
Charles Olaro, director general of health services at the ministry, said in a statement that Uganda continues to maintain strong surveillance and preparedness measures to protect public health.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the case identified in Kenya involved an individual who travelled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, transited through Uganda for less than 24 hours and subsequently travelled to Kenya. Our screening teams observed that he had normal temperature at the time of departure from Entebbe (airport)," Olaro said.
"The public is encouraged to remain calm, rely on official information and continue observing recommended public health measures," he added.
The ministry said it is working closely with relevant authorities and partners to intensify cross-border surveillance, enhance information sharing and ensure the timely detection and management of potential public health threats.
Kenya on Tuesday confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease, one day after a man died in a Nairobi hospital, the country's health authorities said. ■
