KABUL, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have seized 60 kg of methamphetamine along with 5 kg of opium and apprehended a suspected smuggler in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, a local police official reported on Monday.
The consignment was uncovered during a targeted operation in Dur Baba district, according to Sayed Tayeb Hamad, the provincial police spokesman.
The suspect had concealed the contraband in hidden sections inside a vehicle while attempting to transport it to an unknown destination, Hamad added.
In a related development, Afghan security forces dismantled three clandestine drug-processing laboratories and confiscated 20,740 kg of illicit substances used in heroin production across Helmand, Kandahar and Ghor provinces, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced late Sunday.
The Afghan government has intensified its campaign against narcotics trafficking and production, reaffirming its determination to eradicate poppy cultivation and eliminate the manufacture of heroin and other illicit substances nationwide. ■
