DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Tanzanian artists took to the stage in Dar es Salaam on Saturday night for a vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival gala celebrating friendship between the two countries through music, dance and traditional arts.
The event brought together Chinese and Tanzanian guests, performers and members of the Chinese community for a cultural journey featuring artistic traditions from southwest China's Guizhou Province.
The program included Miao ethnic dance, the Dong ethnic group's a cappella, Tanzanian traditional dance, and traditional Chinese songs, performed by Chinese and Tanzanian artists.
Dar es Salaam Regional Administrative Secretary Abdul Mhinte said the festival offered an opportunity to celebrate not only Chinese culture but also the growing friendship and cooperation between Tanzania and China.
Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian said cultural exchanges provided new opportunities to deepen ties between the two countries, particularly during the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
"China stands ready to work together with the government of Tanzania to continue deepening exchange and cooperation in culture, art, tourism, and other fields," Chen said.
As a cultural and tourism exchange event, the China Cultural Center in Tanzania, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania co-hosted the gala. It also marked the opening of the East Africa Art Center in Dar es Salaam. ■
