DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania is targeting 99 percent completion of major infrastructure for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations by December, said a senior official on Thursday.
Tanzania's Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Makonda told journalists in Dar es Salaam that the preparations are progressing at various venues, with some training grounds in the northern city of Arusha already planted with grass.
In Dar es Salaam, construction of stands and changing rooms in stadiums is underway, while the installation of grass playing surfaces is also progressing, he said.
Makonda noted that the government is working with tournament organizers to ensure that all required infrastructure will be completed on schedule and meet the required standards.
AFCON 2027 will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, marking the first time the three East African countries will stage the continent's premier international men's football tournament together. ■
