CAIRO, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Egypt has launched its first locally developed industrial robot, marking a step toward expanding domestic capabilities in advanced manufacturing, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said Wednesday.
The robot, developed by the Industrial Modernization Center in cooperation with RaedBots and Qube, is designed for integration into an industrial application, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the local content currently stands at 80 percent, with a target to reach 90 percent in the near future, following the local manufacturing of the motor.
Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said the project marked an important step toward strengthening Egypt's manufacturing capabilities and developing more efficient, competitive factories.
It also demonstrated young Egyptians' ability to turn knowledge and innovation into industrial products, he said.
The ministry is focusing on developing machinery and production lines under Egypt's industrial strategy and will support initiatives that strengthen manufacturing and create opportunities for young Egyptians, Hashem added. ■
