TRIPOLI, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Libya's oil sector generated about 15.2 billion U.S. dollars in revenues during the first eight months of 2026, according to data released on Monday by the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
The revenues recorded between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31 included about 11.9 billion dollars from crude oil exports, 2.4 billion dollars from oil-related taxes and royalties, and around 900 million dollars from sales of natural gas, condensates and petroleum products, the ministry said.
The ministry said that it has continued to publish indicators and data on the sector's performance as part of efforts to enhance transparency and disclosure of oil revenues and highlight the contribution of the oil and gas sector to the national economy.
Libya relies heavily on its oil and gas sector for public revenues and foreign currency, while its energy sector needs further investment and technology to upgrade infrastructure and boost production. ■
