TRIPOLI, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Libya aims to increase its natural gas production to 4 billion cubic feet per day over the next three to five years, Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek said on Tuesday.

The minister said, during a forum in Bangkok, there are "huge opportunities" to raise gas production to this level based solely on the country's discovered resources of non-associated and associated natural gas.

Libya produced around 77 billion cubic feet of natural gas in August 2026, according to data from the National Oil Corporation, meaning the plan aims to increase production by more than 55 percent from its current level.

Libya's economy relies heavily on the oil and gas sector, which remains the country's main source of government revenue and foreign currency.
