CAIRO, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's annual inflation rate eased to 12.7 percent in August from 13 percent in July, the country's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Thursday.
Food and beverage prices fell by 1.2 percent month on month in August, mainly driven by a 7-percent decline in vegetable prices and a 1.5-percent drop in meat and poultry prices.
Prices of cereals and bread and fish and seafood each edged down by 0.1 percent, while dairy, cheese and eggs rose by 1.3 percent, oils and fats by 0.3 percent, and fruits by 0.2 percent.
Meanwhile, housing, water, electricity and gas prices rose by 1.9 percent month on month, as electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 4.3 percent and actual housing rents by 0.8 percent.
Healthcare prices also increased by 0.4 percent, while both the restaurants and hotels section and the clothing and footwear section rose by 0.5 percent.
On an annual basis, compared with August 2025, food and beverage prices increased by 6.5 percent, with vegetable prices up 27.7 percent, fruits by 8.1 percent, and meat and poultry by 3.8 percent.
Other annual increases included housing, water, electricity and gas, which rose by 33 percent, transport and communications by 21.7 percent, education by 20 percent, and restaurants and hotels by 13.4 percent. ■
