YAOUNDE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cameroonian President Paul Biya on Saturday honored the national women's football team for winning its first Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
At an official ceremony at the presidency, Biya conferred honorary state decorations on the players in recognition of their achievement.
"You thrilled us match after match with your courage, determination, commitment and talent. You won us over with your energy, discipline, team spirit and solidarity," Biya said during the ceremony.
"By securing this continental title, you have written a magnificent chapter in our country's sporting history. Further challenges lie ahead. I therefore urge you to remain united and stand together," he added.
Cameroon beat Malawi 3-0 in the WAFCON final in Rabat, Morocco on August 16. ■
