ACCRA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has lauded Chinese automobile assembly and distribution company Zonda Tec Ghana Limited for its exemplary leadership in showing the way for women-led businesses in Ghana.
Opoku-Agyemang made the remarks on Tuesday during a tour of the company's Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly lines near the eastern port city of Tema.
The vice president noted that the strides made by Zonda, a woman-led industrial company, are a clear example of the impact of women on Ghana's economic development.
Guided by the company's Founder and Chief Executive Officer Yang Yang, Opoku-Agyemang observed the assembly of trucks and other specialized vehicles under a CKD system, inspected the light vehicle assembly plant, where the company's hybrid and electric vehicles are also assembled, and toured other technical units.
Zonda Tec's exploits, according to her, demonstrate the potential of Ghana's industrialization agenda and the emerging 24-hour economy, with continuous production, skills, and innovation converging to unlock jobs at scale.
She described Zonda Tec's increasing adoption of lower-emission vehicle technologies as crucial in Ghana's quest to meet its transport needs while reducing emissions.
"As the government expands the productive economy, we will continue to back enterprises that invest in local production, innovation, and the skills of our people, while deliberately creating more room for women to build and lead businesses across every sector of our economy," said Opoku-Agyemang.
The vice president commended Zonda Tec for its investment in skills development, urging that such initiatives "must tell our training institutions what the future demands, and our institutions must respond with graduates who are ready on day one."
She also urged the company to continue investing in local production, technology, and the training of Ghanaian workers, while exploring opportunities to manufacture more components locally. ■
