CAIRO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday reviewed a national strategy targeting a 45-percent share of renewable energy in total generated electricity by 2028, according to a statement by the presidency.

A meeting, attended by Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and other officials, reviewed the latest developments in implementing the national strategy to expand renewable and new energy projects, said the statement.

Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat said total investment in Egypt's electricity, new energy and renewable energy sectors had reached about 5 trillion Egyptian pounds (about 99.6 billion U.S. dollars) since 2014.

The president also emphasized the importance of supporting the localization of industries related to new and renewable energy, which constitute a fundamental pillar for strengthening energy security and advancing the green transition.
