DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The 28th Chinese medical team to mainland Tanzania has conducted its second training course on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for Tanzanian primary healthcare workers and community health practitioners.
The training, held at the Kinondoni Municipal Council in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, focused on the basic theories of TCM and practical acupuncture skills, providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.
"The training focused on the fundamental theory of TCM and practical acupuncture skills," said Wang Hongqing, a TCM physician with the Chinese medical team. He also delivered systematic lectures on the core concepts of meridians and acupoints.
During the hands-on sessions, Wang demonstrated essential acupuncture techniques, including needle insertion, lifting and thrusting, and twirling manipulation. Under his guidance, trainees repeatedly practiced needling techniques using simple training models.
"Traditional Chinese medicine is a treasure of China's outstanding traditional culture as well as a valuable medical resource that can contribute to global health governance," said Liu Jia, head of the Chinese medical team, adding that TCM is an important component of China's medical assistance and health cooperation with Tanzania.
Husna Sharif, a representative of the Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association, expressed gratitude to the medical team, saying that the training is part of its broader efforts to share medical expertise and strengthen the capacity of local healthcare workers, contributing to closer Tanzania-China health cooperation and people-to-people ties. ■
