TRIPOLI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Eastern and southern Libya, along with some areas in western Libya, experienced a complete power outage early Saturday, according to local media.
It's not immediately clear what caused the widespread blackout, or when power supply will be restored.
Libya has been witnessing frequent electricity outages in recent days, coupled with a heatwave affecting the country.
The power sector faces challenges including insufficient generation capacity, shortages of natural gas for operating power plants, and damage to electricity infrastructure.
The country has also seen near-daily sit-ins and protests since mid-June over the power outages and unstable electricity supply. ■
